Other Information Services
IANA offers a number of valuable business information services. Click on the links below for more information:
Global Intermodal Equipment Registry (GIER)
The GIER solution is a central database where all intermodal equipment in use throughout North America and subject to the “Roadability” regulations, are registered utilizing the current alphanumeric equipment ID number. GIER was specifically designed to meet the equipment marking options as found in the Section 390.21, Part 390 of the final “roadability” regulations issued under Docket No. FMCSA-2005-23315.
This web-based portal with supporting applications provides a central system to record ownership and operating control of equipment for use by the industry and public sector (federal, state, and local enforcement personnel) to determine compliance with FMCSA roadability regulations and identification of the IEP responsible for the maintenance and repair of the equipment.
Go to www.gierregistry.com for more information on this service.
Driver Vehicle Inspection Report Service (DVIR)
Driver vehicle inspection reporting was mandated, effective June 30, 2010, as defined in Sections 396.11-12, Part 390 of the final “Roadability” regulations issued under Docket No. FMCSA-2005-23315. In support, IANA developed the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report processing capabilities.
DVIR services include:
- DVIR Processing – Upon receipt of specific gate and roadability compliance information, IANA will create a DVIR and deliver it to the appropriate Intermodal Equipment Provider (IEP).
- DVIR Web Services – A computer-to-computer interface that enables communication with IANA databases in order to create an electronic DVIR. This service provides the recipient with critical information components necessary to create a DVIR including identification of the IEP and provision of a driver’s electronic signature.
- IANA’s DVIR services link the Global Intermodal Equipment Registry, IANA’s Intermodal Driver Database (IDD) and Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA) database to provide efficient access to the data needed for DVIR reporting.

Intermodal Driver Database
The UIIA Intermodal Driver Database (IDD) is the most comprehensive and accurate database of North American intermodal carriers available. With demographic data on more than 1 million drivers (422,000 active drivers) representing 7,000-plus trucking companies, the IDD enhances the ability of intermodal load centers and equipment providers to positively identify all persons attempting to enter their facilities and helps restrict unauthorized access.
The IDD system can:
- Verify the identity of drivers and validate their background information;
- Match drivers to companies that are authorized to conduct business at an intermodal facility;
- Assist load center facilities with managing their security risks;
- Account for personnel access to facilities and activities of authorized personnel;
- Minimize the need for redundant credentials;
- Build on existing technology;
- Minimize the risk of unauthorized release of personal information.
The IDD offers the potential to:
- Increase cargo/unit visibility and theft prevention;
- Improve motor carrier and terminal efficiency by reducing vehicle queue times.
The IDD, partnered with the UIIA program, transmits accurate and up-to-date information to UIIA Equipment Providers on drivers along with Motor Carrier interchange status via customized electronic data feeds.
For more information on the IDD, Download the IDD User Guide or Contact Our Office at (877) 438-8442.
Intermodal Tractor Registry
IANA’s Intermodal Tractor Registry (ITR) is an expansion of the Intermodal Driver Database and provides a method for UIIA Motor Carriers and Motor Carriers with drivers registered in the IDD to manage both their drivers and the registration of tractors/trucks in a centralized database. The ITR also offers Motor Carriers the ability to register truck/tractor information in the California Air Resource Board (CARB) Equipment Registration (ARBER) system as required under the California Code Regulation (Section 2027) for trucks transporting cargo to and from California ports, terminals and rail facilities.

Motor Carrier Database
The Motor Carrier Database comprises approximately 7,000 motor carriers participating in the Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement (UIIA) a program of the Intermodal Association of North America. The database is updated on a daily basis and is the most comprehensive and accurate database of North American intermodal motor carriers available.
This cost-effective marketing tool is available in convenient Microsoft Excel© files for ease of use. Click here for more information or to order.
A special version of the database containing additional information is available for Insurance Agencies. Click here for more information or to order.
Terminal Feed Service
The Terminal Feed Service provides direct real-time data transmission of information contained in the UIIA database to terminals, container yards and depots on behalf of participating Equipment Providers. This service is offered to participating UIIA Equipment Providers to expedite the interchange process and reduce unnecessary delays at facilities. Click here to download the Terminal Feed Service brochure to obtain more information about this service or contact IANA at (301) 982-3400 ext. 316.
Driver Lookup Service
The Driver Lookup Service (DLS) is a web-based service that allows ports, terminals, container yards and depots to quickly identify drivers accessing their facilities, via a direct query to a database of over 1 million registrants (315,000 active registrants). This information can also be provided via a via XML. In addition to driver demographics, motor carrier interchange status information is also available if Equipment Providers utilizing the facility also subscribe to the Terminal Feed Service.
